The Triad SQL Business Intelligence Users Group is a forum where any one interested in the Microsoft business intelligence stack can meet to learn more about the product, share ideas and make contact with other similar individuals. Our group is run by Microsoft BI professionals for the benefit of anyone interested in participating in the group.

All of our meetings are free and open to anyone who is interested in sharing their knowledge of SQL Server. Our meetings are generally held on the last Tuesday of every month, unless otherwise noted. Pizza and drinks are provided.

Topic: Power BI tools for Excel

Abstract:

Despite the many advanced and user-friendly BI tools on the market, people still love using Excel to analyze and view information. Microsoft is now embedding self-service BI tools into Excel in the form of the Power BI suite. Learn about Power Query for ETL, Power Pivot for in-memory analytics and Power View for data visualization. We'll also talk about the Office 365 platform for sharing data. After a brief introduction to the Power BI tools, the presentation will be a live demo of the Power BI features in Excel.

 

Speaker Bio: 

Katherine Fraser has been working in the IT field since 1995, focusing on database modeling and development in multiple domains such as financial services, manufacturing, and logistics. In her current position as a BI applications architect at Volvo, she works on data warehousing projects to define business requirements and translate them into integrated data stores with user-friendly BI access. Katherine has a Masters degree in Information Systems and has a weird passion for data storage and retrieval.
