The Triad SQL Business Intelligence Users Group is a forum where any one interested in the Microsoft business intelligence stack can meet to learn more about the product, share ideas and make contact with other similar individuals. Our group is run by Microsoft BI professionals for the benefit of anyone interested in participating in the group.

All of our meetings are free and open to anyone who is interested in sharing their knowledge of SQL Server. Our meetings are generally held on the last Tuesday of every month, unless otherwise noted. Pizza and drinks are provided.

Topic: Microsoft's Analytics Platform System (APS)

Abstract:

During this discussion about Analytics Platform System we’re going to cover the underlying MPP Architecture including the built HA capabilities as well as its agnostic approach to Model Design and a Shared Nothing Architecture.  Additionally, we’ll discuss the tight integration of the Federated Query Engine Polybase which is a clear differentiator in the Appliance space along with several practical use cases for DBAs and Architects.  Finally, we’ll talk about what changes have happened over the past year and some non-NDA discussion around roadmap items.

 

Speaker Bio: 

James Herring is a Data Warehousing professional with over 24 years of concept development to full system implementation leading development and management teams to ensure smooth delivery of required architecture(s). He is currently part of the Emerging Platforms Group at Microsoft focused on building assets and partnerships on the Microsoft MPP offering (Microsoft Analytics Platform System or APS) within the Incubation team where he supports the Federal and mid-Atlantic districts as well as Canada (Federal and Private Sector).  James has been with this group since the introduction of the V1 product offering over 3 years ago.
